Coughing, Coughing, & Coughing

This past week has been a difficult and tiring week. I somehow caught a cold which caused me to cough and cough and cough. Just when I thought I could cough no more I found myself coughing. Thankfully today, a week later, I feel much better. I still cough occasionally but nothing like last week. During my time of not feeling well I was blessed to have Zane, my parents, and my teammates nurse me back to health. What an amazing support system I truly have!!!

Daniel’s Big Day

Last night our team got to take part in our first “family” celebration together- the agroup.jpgcelebration of Daniel Roberts 7th birthday! It was a great and festive occasion for us as we got to go to the place where “Kids can be Kids” (and apparently adults can be too!). The night was filled with cakes, games, tokens, tickets and, of course, Transformers, as every good birthday party should be.

While I am sure Daniel had fun celebrate his birthday at wonderful Chucky Cheese, I know for certain that some of his more “mature” april-jonah.jpgcounterparts had a blast. “Lets see a little kid beat that!”, one of our teammates said after getting a score of 94 in the basketball game (which to his credit, the previous high score was 70, also set by one of our teammates). As for myself, Nathan and I defeated an alien invasion game, leaving it nothing to do but sadly scroll through tadaniel.jpghe credits as we celebrate our glorious victory over the martian species. All in all, it was a great night for our team to be able to spend time with each other just having fun (and being kids), we certainly have many more of those times ahead of us!

Prayer Request:

Please be praying for April and I this weekend. We have the opportunity to talk with a church this weekend about on-going support and we need your prayers that God will work in this opportunity! Thanks!

Millie

A cold chilly wind soaring across the wide open fields covered in brown grass, surrounded us on February12 as we lay to rest a close family friend of the McGee’s, Millie Purer. Millie Purer was a neighbor of the family and had become a grandmother figure to the family over the course of several years. Originally from New Jersey, Millie travel with her husband to Booker, Texas where she lived until her death. Millie was a kind hearted, outgoing, down to earth woman who loved people. As I sat in the church auditorium listening to Zane give a message of comfort to the family and friends I couldn’t help but think of Heaven. The Bible tell us that “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain;” Rev. 21:4. What a comfort and excitement this passage brings!

Land Area

Land Area

The chart above is a comparison between the land area of Oklahoma City, OK & Niteroi, Brazil. The blue represents the area of OKC & the yellow represents the land area of Niteroi. Notice that these two cities are relatively the same size (in population) but that Niteroi is only 8% the size of Oklahoma City. It is amazing how many people life in such close proximity in Brazil. This is a great benefit to our team as it will present the potential to reach a larger number of people in a smaller area. This is great exposure for us!

Wall of Dreams

Wall of Dreams

The above picture is a result of our brain storming session today with General Jim Brickman. General Brickman is helping us through the planning and strategy process as our team looks towards our future goals for the church and how to achieve those goals. His insight is a wonderful blessing to us and we are blessed to have somebody as helpful and organized as the General to help us in planning and implementing a vision for the future.

We’ve also been blessed in the past several weeks to hear the insight of several missionaries who have ben back in the states for furlough. Kirsty Baird visited us from the Victory Church of Christ in Rio de Janeiro. Last week we got to talk with Jeff and Penny Hatcher, who are working in Santiago, Chile, and also from their teammate Kelley Grant earlier this week. Both of these works are over 8 years old and it was great to hear from them about the “life-span” of a mission work.

We also got to talk with the Jewels who previously worked in Porto Alegre, Brazil and are now headed to Natal, Brazil to work at starting a bible school there. Talking with each of these missionaries, as well as having the input of Scott & Ron (our teachers & both former missionaries) has been a great blessing for us!

Platter of Gluttony

As many of you know last night was the Super Bowl and to celebrate this great American game our team thought it would be a great idea to have a cookout! With this cookout we decided to include a few Brazilian dishes. The main dish we had was made up of French fries and cheese melted on top of slices of steak. It was sooooooo scrumptious! Needless to say, this dish became known to all of us as the platter of gluttony because of how much we all ate. We all had a wonderful time eating and watching the game even though our pants  fit a bit tighter today!
