Hello Friends of the Niteroi Mission Team! Thank you for visiting the Gotcher Blog. We arrived in Niteroi, Brazil in November and have been taking language classes and settling in as we prepare to plant a church. We will attempt to keep the blog updated as much as possible and you can also find both Wes and Carrie on Facebook. Again thank you for visiting our blog and please keep the church plant and our family in your prayers. We understand that we will not have any success apart from God's desire for this chuch so please pray that we will speak only his words and that his truth will fall on fertile hearts.

August Pictures

Below are some random pictures taken during the past month.  We will have a video put together in the next week or so.

This is the beach football team that Brent and I play on.  The Niteroi Corsarios.

4 of the 5 guys on our team.  There are some great hiking trails just a 45 minute bus ride away from our neighborhood.  This is a pic from one rainy Friday afternoon in August.  There is a massive monolith that overlooks the bay and we plan to climb it the next time the guys get together.

At the 4th of July party the guys got together and played some beach soccer.  Some Brazilian teens joined our game and enjoyed laughing at the Gringo style of play.  Actually Ben and Nathan have spent enough time here to actually be considered good.  Brent’s speed helps him compete.  Zane and I pretty much just push people around.

Package Arrives!

Package Arrives!

This package had peanut butter in it.  We cannot buy pb at our local grocery store so it’s exciting to receive it in the occasional care package.  This may appear to be manufactured excitement but I assure you that the pb was opened in a matter of minutes.

Team Survey

Team Survey

I’ll be including more info about our team survey in the upcoming monthly report but this is a pic taken before we interviewed 200 people in the park one Saturday morning.  The interviews went really well and the info obtained in them should help us have a better feel for the neighborhood where we are planting the church.

Mom & Dad

Mom & Dad

My parents came down to visit and we had an excellent time showing them around Niteroi and Rio.  I’ll put a video of our trip on the blog in the next week or so.  It was so great to have them here.

Carrie & Charbelle

Carrie & Charbelle

This is Charbelle another language teacher and friend.  We have enjoyed spending time with and getting to know her and her husband Sergio.  This picture was taken at Charbelle’s birthday party.

American Football

Brent and I have been playing American football on a team from Niteroi that plays in a 12 team league.  The pictures below are of our recent game in Cabo Frio.  Zane, who is known for good camera work, caught the exact moment that my nose was broken.  It’s feeling a lot better now and I have a doctor’s appointment in the morning.  Enjoy the pics.
